Auditorium feat. Slick Rick is my favourite track off the Grammy award nominated Ecstatic. I eagerly awaited this album and was so glad to see a return to form. Mos Def was in danger of becoming one of those awesome rapper/crappy actor types (ice cube) who spew out commercial nonsense albums between commercial nonsense films.

Auditorium is accessible whilst also being undeniably substream. Sick production from Madlib gives it a subtle intensity. A middle eastern vibe and some great lyrics from both Def and Slick make this the stand out track of the album, which also features posthumous production from the great J Dilla.

Once upon a time not long ago, Mos Def became a regular feature in my day-to-day playlist. Fortunately, this fairy tale has a happy ending….
